Barb E | Truth Media | British Columbia

As urban monks, we know that God uses us in the places we are every day. Sometimes, God takes us to unique places and out of our normal context. This summer, Barb E is out west working for Truth Media, doing some writing for the web content and various other stuff.

Check out Truth Media.

What is an Urban Monk @ TILT?

Throughout the centuries, the life of the Monk has been to pattern all of life around worship and prayer in the context of community, as opposed to the way many of us live life where we try to pattern our time for worship and prayer into the context of our lives.

Urban Monks walk the streets, bike the paths, drive the highways, and ride the subways of Toronto yearning to see the City of God descend into the alleyways, buildings, and homes of this city (Hebrews 11:10, 16). This desire to see God’s City—one of peace, justice, unity, equity and love—is rooted in a communal life of prayer. As God guides the community at TILT, so the Urban Monks have others to share in this journey of prayer and transformation.

On a practical level, the Urban Monk section of this site links the various people who are a part of TILT in prayer and reading of Scriptures, acting as a resource for continued community throughout the week. Through this blog, we can pray for one another as people post things, our communities and our world as we listen to, watch or read the news. We can also use this resource to pattern worship and prayer into the very rhythms of our lives. Prayer is, of course, a part of “The Daily” aspect of our spirituality, but we believe prayer is of utmost importance in our relationship with God, ourselves, those around us, and the world.
