COMMUNITY Life & Prayer | Week of March 4

Last night was our communion potluck and we spent some time praying for one another. If you were there last night, continue to pray through some of the things that were raised at your table. Here were the questions which guided our prayer:

Jesus’ prayer: “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one”. Pray for unity as a TILT community, Spring Garden community and for the church throughout Toronto and Canada.

God has made us competent ministers of His Good News. Pray for eyes to see opportunities to be ministers in both word and deed, and for courage to respond to them!

Pray for one another about areas of our lives where we struggle to trust God. What are we anxious about? Where do we need both discernment and trust?

As always, post your stories, prayer requests, praises by clicking on "Comments".

There was quite a sad article in the Toronto Star about the Prayer Palace. Read it here: http://www.thestar.com/article/187986/

Pray for these pastors, pray for the people who go to the church. Pray for a spirit of repentance and compassion.

That is a crazy article! Hard to know what to think about it all. It seems like the pastors are wrong, yet as someone who raises their own finanical support to work in full time ministry, I can see the other side of it. Sometimes I wonder what people will think if I save my money well or invest wisely and buy something nice. I am not saying their situation is justified, but we need to think about it from all sides.

We were discussing in class how it is sad that it is the Toronto Star that uncovers these things, rather than a spirit of unity and accountability within the church itself. However, when a pastor decides to go on his or her own, that accountability is made extremely difficult. And being involved in such councils as the Christian Charity council (forget the proper name), which holds churches accountable, is voluntary...of course, Prayer Palace was not involved.

And of course, things will be slanted when viewed from a secular point of view.

Investing and saving to buy something 'nice' is a little different than deceiving people and using their money for other things!

People are investing in you as a person and if you make wise choices and decisions, I think they will see that and honour it.
